Say Goodbye to BlackBerry? If Obama Has to, Yes He Can - NYTimes.com

As hard as it might be to believe, the President of the United States of America is not really allowed to simply email people from his Blackberry. Because of really high security protocols and the need for all presidential communication to be retrievable via subpoena, email in this regard becomes difficult.

For all the perquisites and power afforded the president, the chief executive of the United States is essentially deprived by law and by culture of some of the very tools that other chief executives depend on to survive and to thrive.

With today's ultra-wired world, do you find this one difficult to believe? Check out the full story in the New York Times.

  1. Boundaries, huh? Sometimes if I wake up in the middle of the night, I’ll turn on my BlackBerry and read the newspapers like WSJ, NY Times and the Washington Post. In former times, we would’ve sat up in bed and read. Today we turn on our BlackBerries. I have struggled to keep proper boundaries. For one thing, companies have come to expect that you will be “on” during off hours, too. So in this economy it puts extra stress to be responsive and available. Perhaps my tongue-in-cheek letter to the President-elect Obama (http://www.justmypointofview.wordpress.com) might shed some light on how we could cope with our growing BlackBerry addictions: Perhaps by living more in the world of the present with people and less in the world of gadgets and impersonal electronic communications. How many moments have we all lost forever because we were buried in our Blackberries and other mobile devices? How can Obama cope with the loss of his beloved BlackBerry — share your ideas at http://www.justmypointofview.wordpress.com
